What a crazy year! I am sure I am not the only one who feels the same and want’s this year to be over. But what do you see when you look at your wardrobe? Was it the year of losing control or organized one in every kind of direction? For me, it was a year of adding seasonal, casual but more feminine pieces. Everything in the highest quality what I could afford. But at the same time, I think I bought quite a lot so next year I will go on a shopping detox challenge. I don’t think it will be as strict as it was 3 years ago, but it will be ‘ add as little as possible ‘ challenge.  You are probably wondering what I actually purchased and why. This is my wardrobe update of 2020.

My Wardrobe Update

This is my second year since I decluttered my wardrobe and being in the process of buying only quality items. I said it so many times and will say it again. Capsule wardrobe thought me a lot about my style and to shop fewer but better. This year generally I shopped online, as there weren’t many opportunities to go outside, but I always checked the labels ( material composition ) of the garment. If it wasn’t cotton, leather or something what I really liked and would wear it for years to come I skipped it. I have always done, what I have never done before, returned the items as they didn’t fit me as I would like them to fit. Or the colour wasn’t right. Before I would try to wear it and fall in love with the item, but not any more. What’s the point to stress me or not to feel good once I wear it. Ladies we don’t need that. It is important, to be honest to ourselves. I updated my wardrobe with some handmade pieces, some from small businesses but I also shopped from high street brands. And what did I actually added to my wardrobe?

My Wardrobe Update

Jeans

I got a few of them. Working from home and having only a single pair of jeans wasn’t really working. I updated my jeans collection to 5 pairs. Why did I go that far? I tried new styles. I added mom jeans in light blue and black, straight leg jeans and loose fit mom jeans. What I was looking for was high waisted, non-stretch style. And I wanted to step away from skinny style. I feel like I outgrew it and doesn’t suit me the best. Mom jeans were kind of jeans what I needed to get used to at first, but then they became my most worn jeans. Light blue was the summer choice and black all year round. The straight fit was something that I wanted to add a more casual piece, to wear with heels. But I think it will be my only pair in really classic straight style. I love the colour, old fashion classic blue, the kind what will wear off really nicely, so I kept them, but I returned the light blue even when I liked the colour, the style wasn’t me at all. And the last pair is loose mom jeans. Feels more like a boyfriend style, but the colour and fit was the love at the first wear. They are so comfortable for weekends to spend at home when I need to be around kids and play on the floor. All pairs have been purchased from Zara as I know the sizewise they always fit the right.

My Wardrobe Update

Tops

I got a few shirts/blouses. That was more for summer as I realized there are some gaps in my wardrobe. At the moment I don’t need blouses but still, I like to wear shirt style tops and cotton shirts. My friend has the perfect style of those in her minimalistic but also unique pieces in her boutique. I like that all pieces what I got from Maximilian Boutique are that everything is made in Italy in a small factory.

Dress and Skirt

I didn’t need to add much more than this from that part. Easier to wear in the summer than shorts and it gives me more options on a dress scale and skirt was handmade by my mother in law so it’s a keeper.

My Wardrobe Update

Blazer

This is the style what I wanted for a while, so when I saw it I didn’t think twice. I got it in a dark colour, but the style is the same. It is perfectly oversize, not too thick but not even thin, what it gives me great spring and fall outwear. It was actually my most worn piece worn over early spring and through fall.

Accessories

Shoes

I added quite a few styles and types of shoes. At the beginning of the year, I needed to add something more office-appropriate, but as soon as pandemic hit us I was reaching for more comfortable everyday shoes. The style what I really wanted was mules as I had to say goodbye to my latest one. The first pair was looking great but so uncomfortable and inappropriate to my current style, so I got another two, I know not really sustainable way but one is flat what I needed and the second pair is black with tiny kitten heel in leather but so comfortable that I can wear it as an everyday shoe. Both are from Zara but it was one of my best purchases. The last pair I had to get, as I didn’t have proper winter boots. And when I say proper I mean it. Think of fur ( not real ) inside, think sole and thick leather. That many pairs will last me for a few years so next year and few more don’t need to worry about shoes at all.

My Wardrobe Update

Bag

That wasn’t a planned purchase but I had on my wishlist leather tote for a while. So this is was kind of impulse but well-thought purchase. Even when I had to wait for it for 3 months it was worth it. If you like to get something faster and sustainably made you can check Everlane who does the Goodbye sale at the moment. So if you like to get something from Everlane this is the best time to get it.

Scarf

Sometimes there are unplanned but necessary purchases. And the scarf is one of them. Needed something in a neutral colour with the black accent.

What did you buy this year? Was it too many or nothing at all? Did your style changed or you did well with the pieces what you already had?
